TEETH WHITENING BEFORE / AFTER CARE

BEFORE CARE INSTRUCTIONS

Do not brush or floss 4 hours before your appointment

I recommend a thorough floss-brush-rinse the night before. 

Be sure to eat a filling meal and drink coffee/colored beverages prior too as you will not be able to get coffee afterwards. 

Sensitivity is typically due to dehydration, be sure to drink plenty of water leading up to your appointment and continue after.

HELPFUL TIPS


If you have sensitivity, you can take and NSAID- Tylenol / Ibuprofen for pain if needed. 

Avoid extremely hot or cold liquids. These change the temperature of your teeth. The temperature change (hot and cold cycling) causes the teeth to expand and contract, allowing stains to penetrate your teeth for the first 24-48hrs after your appointment. Drinking through a straw to reduce the amount of contact with your teeth can help with this. 

Avoid foods and drinks that are acidic. Acidic foods and beverages open the pores of the tooth enamel allowing stains to easily penetrate your teeth. Again, you can use a straw to help eliminate contact with your teeth while drinking acidic beverages.

Cut back on drinking and smoking for the first 24-48hrs after your appointment. Consuming alcoholic beverages and smoking can affect the results of teeth whitening. Alcoholic beverages may contain tannins that can stain the teeth, along with nicotine in the tobacco. If you are not able to stop completely, try to do it in moderation or less frequently. 

Ladies, use smudge proof lipstick. Regular lipstick CAN stain your newly whitened teeth.

Use maintenance products at home! Maintaining results is something that is asked about with almost every client. At home products help fight daily stains and will prolong your results. You should be using whitening toothpaste daily. The whitening foam included in your take home bag should be used at least once per week but can be used daily after brushing with daily toothpaste. 

Your results can last 3-6+ months, depending on your diet. Just remember that your results and longevity depend on your habits! 

It is recommended to whiten your teeth every 6 months to maintain your white teeth! 

Please remember to AVOID food or drinks with ANY color or dyes in them for the first 24-48hrs. The more color you put in contact with your teeth, the more likely it can and will stain your newly whitened teeth.




AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS


Follow the β€œwhite diet” for 48hrs after your appointment. Your outcome and longevity of your results depends on YOU! 

After your teeth whitening treatment, the pores of your enamel are still open and this makes them extremely vulnerable to stains. Once the pores close (usually within 24-48hrs) AFTER your procedure, you can resume your normal eating habits. 

Do not eat for at least 2hrs after your appointment. You may drink water.
