What is Lip Blush?
Lip blush is a cosmetic tattoo that creates the appearance of matte lip stick. A tattoo cartridge composed of 1 or more needles is used to create tiny pixels. Lip blush can be used to neutralize melanin rich lips (darker hue lips).
BEFORE APPOINTMENT CARE
If you are pregnant, you cannot have permanent makeup done, and you will be rescheduled.
Do not take any blood thinners the morning of your appointment, you may resume after your appointment. Blood thinners include Aspirin, ibuprofen, fish oil, omegas, vitamin E, and more. Non-anticoagulant pain relievers, such as Tylenol, can be taken. You must be off any antibiotics for 2-4 weeks before your appointment. Do not discontinue any medications prescribed by a physician or any necessary for your health (but some medications may be a contraindication with receiving permanent makeup).
Do not exercise the day of your appointment. This can increase your blood flow and affect your results and retention.
Do not consume alcohol for 24 hours before your appointment. Do not consume any caffeine for 12 hours before your appointment. This includes de-caffeinated teas and coffee, caffeinated soda, most pre-workouts, and some supplements. Alcohol and caffeine will increase your blood flow and affect your results and retention.
Botox and any filler/injections anywhere near your lips or mouth needs to be avoided for at least two weeks before and after your permanent makeup lip appointment to avoid altering the shape or location of your pigment.
Permanent makeup cannot be performed within six months of any chemo or radiation treatments. Permanent makeup cannot be performed over sunburns or freshly tanned skin, including from tanning beds or natural light. You will be rescheduled if you arrive for your appointment with a sunburn or freshly tanned face.
Be sure to moisturize any chapped lips. Chapped lips will not retain pigment resulting in patchy areas. You can exfoliate your lips 48hrs before your appointment.
If you have a history of cold sores, please take your antiviral medication as prescribed starting before your appointment.
Healing Process:
The most important part of the healing process is that you TRUST the process.
The healing stages you experience after getting your lips may not be as dramatic as the photos above. I like to send all of my clients home with this visual because it is helpful to be able to understand each step of healing and how you may feel during each stage. I repeat: your lips may not look this dramatic.
You may experience some swelling within the first 24hrs, swelling is normal and should reside within the next day. You may apply ice packs gently to your lips to help swelling.
Healing on AVERAGE is 7 days, BUT the healing process will be however long it takes YOU to heal. Each person heals differently. With that being said, it is possible for you to finish before 7 days or possibly take longer than 7 days.
DURING INITIAL HEALING (1-7 days +/-):
No picking or scratching at your lips. If you experience any scabbing during the healing process, do not pick the scabs at all; let them come off on their own. If a scab comes off prematurely, you risk having a gap of missing pigment.. Doing so can result in loss of pigment and/or scarring.
No makeup such as lipstick, lipgloss or concealer over lips until they are fully healed. Only the provided soap and lip balm should be applied during that time.
No sweating. No strenuous workouts for the first 24hrs.
Avoid kissing, rubbing or friction until the healing process is complete.
Drink through a straw and avoid hot, spicy, and salty foods while healing, stinging/burning can occur as a result.
Avoid whitening toothpaste. Use lip balm to seal lips before brushing your teeth.
No direct sunlight or tanning beds for 2 weeks. If you are going to be out in the sun, wear a hat. If you are in the sun, your pigment will alter in color, and it will also affect your retention.
No sauna, hot tub, pool, or ocean. You cannot be around the steam from a sauna or hot tub, and you cannot swim in the pool or ocean. If you are going to be pool or oceanside (with a hat & avoiding sweating), make sure you cannot be splashed by the water, and make sure if your hands touch the water that they do not then touch your lips.
TO HELP MAINTAIN THE LIFE OF YOUR LIPS
Avoid any sun exposure without sunscreen on your brows. SPF 30+ is recommended, and sunscreen in makeup or skin care is typically not sufficient. Make sure to reapply your sunscreen often throughout the day. Not protecting your lips from the sun or tanning bed will fade your lips quicker and has the potential to alter the color of the pigment.
Avoid any anti-aging, anti-acne, or exfoliating products on your lips; they can all cause faster fading. If getting a facial, chemical peel, etc., let the service provider know you have had your lips done and to avoid with any active ingredients. Ingredients to avoid Include (but may not be limited to): retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid.
After you have had your initial appointment and 6-12 week touch up, there is not a set time that you will need to come back to get your lips done. As long as you are still happy with your lips, you do not need to come back. At least 50% fading is required before coming back.
